The following is an excerpt from an eight page detailed history of this car back to the year 1987 that I have compiled. I purchased this Rallye Red 1970 AAR ‘Cuda, VIN BS23J0B294098 on October 23, 2004. I contacted Desert AutoSport in Mesa, Arizona the dealer representing the car, made an offer and they accepted. I placed a $1,000 deposit on the car and drove to Mesa to look at this car and finalize the purchase. Upon taking delivery I noticed that the steering box was leaking, and an attempt was made to fix it that afternoon, with no luck. The seller and I agreed that I would take the car and have this fixed in southern California and I would bill him for the repairs, which I did. I personally towed the car back to Oceanside, California where I reside. I have located all of the VIN’s on the car in their proper places with the exception of the transmission; therefore I consider this matching numbers with that exception. The artifacts I received at the time of purchase included a bill of sale between Car Scene, Inc. and Brent N. Hill, a former owner, no date on contract. I also received the Chrysler Registry certificate that Terry Klein, a former owner, had Galen Govier decode the fender tag and entered this VIN into a registry for cars of this type, dated October 25, 2002. Interestingly, the certificate showed the state where Terry lived as Ohio, when it should have been California. I traced the street, city and zip code to a California address. Since purchasing the car I have replaced many components that were missing, incorrect or damaged, as follows:
Hood Bumpers (rear)
Brace, Front Cross-member to Frame (was missing)
Steering box, due to leaking seal
Positive cable strap, engine compartment
Miscellaneous cable straps, engine compartment
Power steering pump, due to leaking seal
Windshield washer bottle
Oil breather, 2 port
Radiator cap
Radiator Shroud mounting hardware
Engine Mount (dampener) front and rear
Idle solenoid and bracket; wiring was found buried in the wiring harness “capped off”. Obtained correct wiring and terminal, connected same.
Positive wire cover on alternator
Alternator (shorted)
Voltage Regulator (correct look and date coded)
Water Pump to Intake manifold bypass hose
Exhaust manifold heat shield (left side)
Emissions timing label inside engine compartment, (was for manual transmission)
Cowl Vent screws (correct ones)
Transmission rebuilt (was slipping badly in reverse/low and 2nd)
Backup lights work intermittently (transmission rebuild fixed the problem)
Grill spacers, replaced missing pieces
Front valance insert
Front speaker, original was cracked beyond repair
Turn signal switch
Sun visor tabs
VIN label, drivers door
Tire pressure label, drivers door jamb pillar under latch striker
Both door locks and ignition lock cylinder (so a single key worked)
Center console, original was cracked at the typical place next to shift knob
Slap stick shifter mechanism
Recently installed AM/FM/CD & rear speakers. The original AM Radio wasn’t working well, sent to a guy for adjustment and shelved it
Coat Hangers
Owner’s manual, original
Antenna was not correct (was ‘whip’ (FM), now ‘telescoping’ (AM))
Rear brakes, due to leaking wheel cylinder right side
Upper and Lower control arm bumpers
Duck tail spoiler, due to some clown rear-ending me (luckily it just scratched the trunk lid paint and broke the existing spoiler)
Tires replaced with BFG Radial T/A's Front 225 60R15; Rear 245 60R15. Should be RWL Goodyear Polyglas GT's Front E60 x 15; Rear G60 x 15
Jack instructions label on the trunk lid
Jack with correct hook, Lug nut handle
Collapsible BF Goodrich (BFG) spare tire, valve cap, reproduction air bottle and bottle bracket
Trunk Floor Mat
Known issues with the car at this time are as follows:
Radiator/heater hoses need to be replaced
Driver door glass scratched
Driver and passenger door not aligned properly
Leaf spring bushings need to be replaced
